Fall off the log is a classic step of vernacular jazz and tap dancing. Several versions exist and its exact origin is not well documented; this is one common eight-count version.
A solo jazz step that teaches travelling with crossing feet and a clear rhythmic kick. It is common in solo jazz classes and as a filler in Lindy Hop.
- Learn the footwork slowly: behind, side, front, kick.
- Keep the kick low and relaxed.
- Then mirror it and travel back.
- Add small arm swings once the feet feel automatic.
