The Suzie Q is a novelty step from the 1930s, named after the song “Doin’ the Suzie-Q” recorded in 1936. It is used in the Big Apple, in Lindy Hop and in other jazz dances.
A solo jazz step that combines travel, a cross step and a swivel. It is a classic filler for Lindy Hop breaks.
- Practise the cross and the swivel in place first.
- Cross the foot in front, put the weight on the heel and turn the toe from left to right.
- Let the arms swing with the crossing and opening feet.
- Then travel: step to the side and cross again.
