Swivel and twist steps are common in Lindy Hop and solo jazz, and the step is also known as a swivel walk or twist step. Where it was first danced is not well documented.
A solo jazz basic that teaches you to twist the hips and feet while travelling. It is a building block for steps such as the Suzie Q.
- Start with the weight on the balls of the feet and the knees softly bent.
- Walk forward with the toe of the stepping foot turned out and let the hips twist on every step.
- Slow, slow, then four quick steps, then walk back.
- Practise in front of a mirror to keep both feet turned out by the same amount.
