Tandem Charleston (tuck into tandem)
A tuck turn that ends in tandem: the follower turns under the leader’s arm, finishes in front of him, both face the same direction, and they kick in sync. A crowd-pleasing variation.

Charleston variations in which the partners move in line instead of facing have been part of Lindy Hop’s repertoire for decades; the exact origin is not well documented. A tuck turn is one of several ways to enter the position.
An intermediate variation that teaches synchronisation: you move as one unit. The tuck turn is a natural way to enter it from a basic pattern. Often used for shows, jams and teaching the feeling of a shared rhythm.
- Master the basic Charleston and the tuck turn first.
- Finish the turn directly in front of the leader, both facing the same way.
- Match your partner’s kick height and timing.
- Count out loud together to lock the rhythm.
