Tuck turn
The classic turn under: from closed position the leader lifts the joined hand and the follower turns once beneath it. A six-count pattern that moves a couple from closed position into open position.
Rock step, triple, triple (1 2 3&4 5&6)
Swing Hall
The turn under, also called the tuck turn, is one of the most common six-count moves and the usual way to go from a closed hold to an open hold. Teachers name and count it differently, so treat this as one common version.
The first travelling-and-turning pattern after the six-count basic. The hold opens, the follower spins once, and the pair is ready for open-position moves such as the inside turn and the swing out.
- First learn it with plain steps: rock step, step, step, step, step. Then turn each pair of steps into a triple step.
- Learn the footwork without the turn first: rock step, triple, triple.
- Leader: raise the joined hand early and keep it in front of the follower’s right shoulder.
- Follower: start the turn on count 5 and finish facing your partner on 6.
- Practise at 70 BPM before speeding up.
